New Expansion Pack at TGS2008!

Still playing Metal Gear Online? If you are, you’ve probably played the original game and the first expansion “Gene” to death already. It might just be about time for a new expansion; Konami seems to agree.

According to these new magazine scans courtesy of omaru fromGameTrailers, MGO’s second expansion dubbed “Meme” will feature both Liquid Ocelot and Mei Ling as new prized characters.

Then there are a handful of new maps: Silo Sunset, Forest Firefight and Winter Warehouse. It shouldn’t be too difficult to figure out what those maps will look like judging by their respective titles. Silo Sunset, however, seems to be set in an area with ruined buildings and not actually inside a massive silo.

MGO recently got a new update with the latest patch that went live today. The version 1.12 update fixed a couple of problems connected to connectivity during hosting, as well as a bug noted in Survival mode.

Here’s the list of bug fixes included in the new patch, taken from the official Metal Gear Online website:

When a host leaves a game, the position of host is automatically forwarded to someone else. When someone else filled the free 16th slot, the player would be invisible to the new host.
The game would sometimes freeze if a player would invite a Clan Member while in Survival mode.

The following problems have been fixed

The day of the week of “Match Time” was not correctly displayed when viewing the rules in the Survival Lobby.

The following game specifications have been changed:
The motion of reloading the shotgun cannot be canceled by equipping a box or changing weapons.

Change of weapon specification:
Saiga 12′s cost changed from 8000DP to 5000DP.
G3A3′s cost changed from 5000DP to 4000DP.

Change of skill specification:
“NARC” Lv2′s cost from 1 to 2
“NARC” Lv3′s cost from 1 to 3
*With this change, all skills will be temporarily removed, but players will be able to put them on again with the existing skill points they have.

If you still haven’t downloaded the new update, then fire up those consoles and connect to the game to get the latest patch.

MGO Stand-Alone Blu Ray Disc

It’s hard to imagine anyone who wants to play Metal Gear Online who doesn’t already have a copy of Metal Gear Solid 4. Despite this, Konami Japan will be releasing a standalone Blu-ray version of the Metal Gear Online “Starter Pack” found on the MGS4 disc. This will go on sale for 1800 yen on July the 17th, over a month after MGS4′s original release.To be honest, we’ll take anything we can get. MGO is already a great game in its own right and any expansions will be gratefully received.

New MGS4 Codes

Here are some more Metal Gear Solid 4 codes for all of you who want “free” stuff. It’s technically free because you don’t have to exert any effort in getting them, but it’s all content already on the disc, which means you already paid for it. Go figure.

Anyway, these items are not as great as last week’s, but we’re sure you’ll enjoy them just the same.

Just like last week, there’s another item for download in addition to the codes. “Metal Camo” is available which causes Life and Psyche gauges to decrease at half the normal rate.

Your Camo Index will also go down by 10 percent. You can grab all three items by accessing the “Extras” menu.

North American MGO Tournament qualifier opens!

The North American MGOWC2008 qualifier round has finally opened over at GameBattles.com. Although Konami has yet to post an official news bulletin on the official Metal Gear Online site, GameBattles has already cut the tape and allowed players over the age of 18 to take part in a ladder that will lead to 8,000 bucks in prizes.

The first place team will receive a check for $4,000 along with a paid trip to Japan to compete in the finals at the Tokyo Game Show. Second and third place will receive $2,500 and $1,500 respectively.

Registration for the ladder is completely separate from the Konami ID registration process, and must be down externally from any Konami-owned site.
I would personally like to wish anyone who partakes in this event good luck. As I’m a few months shy of 18, I’m probably going to just have to sit this one out

MGO Rewards Shop Now Open!

The MGO Rewards shop which was delayed to technical problems, has now been restored. The shop uses reward points, which are gained from official matches.

Metal Gear Online Gene Expansion

There is a new mode called survival. While in survival mode you can earn Reward Points which can be used to buy gear for your character. You even get a extra character slot with this update. So if you want to create a lady character go for it.

Meryl and Johnny will now be in MGO too. Each have there own unique skills. You can’t manually choose to be them, it will be random just like Snake and the MKII.

Here are the new maps:

Coppertown Conflict / City of Sorrow

Tomb of Tubes / Underground Waterway

Virtuous Vista / South America Power Station

What I would love to see is a Shadow Moses level in MGO

And just in case you didn’t know they recently updated MGO with another game mode a couple weeks ago called Team Sneaking. If your the sneaking team it’s quite a challenge, but very fun. Check it out.

Also if you ever create a game make sure to enable ghost pranks! Good times

First European Metal Gear Online Championship

Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH has announced its first European Metal Gear Online Championship, with entrants competing to win a luxury trip to Tokyo – home of series creator, Kojima Productions

Entry is open to players over 18 from all PAL territories, and entrants are invited to visit www.konami-mgo.com/wc2008 to register to play. The first competition will be held on August 15th.

Konami is planning to host four preliminary tournaments per week – each preliminary tournament will feature six players per team, with one back-up member, and will span 16 games of 16 teams competing within the ‘Team Deathmatch: Direct Elimination’ mode and with the maps changing each game. Each match will comprise one round of 15 minutes and the best two teams from each preliminary Tournament will advance to one of two European Final Tournaments.

The two European Final Tournaments featuring teams who win their preliminary rounds will be played in September, with 16 teams each competing for the main prize of a trip to Tokyo between 9th-13th of October where they will be entered for the Grand World Finals at this year’s Tokyo Game Show where further prizes await the successful teams!
